Just what are GMO’s and why are they causing such a ruckus?
It seems that eating healthy is getting more and more
difficult. First it was organic vs non-organic and now it’s GMO vs non-GMO. If
there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s not to put my complete confidence in the
FDA or any other agency where monetary gain or power gain are the controlling
motivation. I know this can sound kind of cynical, but I promise I am not a
cynical person. I believe in being well
informed and abreast of what is best for me and my loved ones.
We are living in an era where people are being forced in to
one of 2 categories when it comes to nutrition.
Either they will choose to just go with the flow, or they will begin
questioning everything and start thinking for themselves. This can be a very
exciting time to be alive! For too long
I feel we have been lulled into a sort of assembly line type of thinking about
the foods we eat – content to take what comes along and not question the source
or the motivation behind the source.
I see our world at a time of nutritional awakening and it is
so thrilling! The questions is, are we going to jump off the conveyor belt and
get our feet down in the real dirt of nutritional gardening, or are we going to
continue to sit contentedly and ignorantly and let conveyor belt take us where
IT want us to go?
Let’s start out by clarifying what GMO is:
Gmo is a genetically modified organism – take genes from one
species and force it into the DNA of other species.
A Few Examples:
1.
Spider genes put into goats in hopes they can
milk the goats that produce milk containing an extra protein, which is
extracted and spun into spider silk thread.
2.
Cow genes put into pigs to have pigs with
cowhides.
3.
Human genes put into corn to make spermicide
At first, these might not sound too bad, maybe even a good
idea…after all,
…haven't growers been grafting trees, breeding animals, and hybridizing
seeds for years?Genetic engineering is completely different from traditional breeding and carries unique risks.
In traditional breeding it is possible to mate a pig with another pig to get a new variety, but is not possible to mate a pig with a potato or a mouse. Even when species that may seem to be closely related do succeed in breeding, the offspring are usually infertile—a horse, for example, can mate with a donkey, but the offspring (a mule) is sterile.
With genetic engineering, scientists can breach species barriers set up by nature. For example, they have spliced fish genes into tomatoes. The results are plants (or animals) with traits that would be virtually impossible to obtain with natural processes, such as crossbreeding or grafting. source
What has caught my attention the most significantly about
GMO’s are these 4 facts -
Don’t get me wrong, I love being an American and I love this
country. It was founded by people who were NOT willing to sit idly by and let
their world crumble around them. I am passionate about my American heritage and
want to keep our country filled with people who think, question, research, seek
inspiration, and then stand up for what they believe.
I’m not going to cover all the nitty-gritty details of GMO
foods, you can research them for yourself. HERE and HERE.
My purpose for this article is to get you thinking and get
you excited about being alive and healthy! I want you to take hold of your
health and make a difference in your life and the lives of those you love most.
With knowledge comes power!
GMO’s should be understood and not feared!
·
In the past 20-30 years, people are getting
sicker, and we are seeing an epidemic rise in diseases such as heart disease,
cancer, diabetes, obesity. This is not normal. Americans are among the sickest
people on the planet.
Why is this so? What has changed?
Could it be our food
has been so genetically modified that our bodies are becoming sick from these known reactions to GMO foods - heart
disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, autism , multiple sclerosis, anorexia,
depression, aggression, allergies, headaches, dementia, constipation, IBS, fatigue,
brain fog skin conditions weight, liver and kidney, depression, autism
behaviors, auto immune disorders.
· A Danish pig farmer switched to feeding his pigs
non-gmo food. Within just a few days the animals had no more diarrhea, which
they had been suffering from on a constant basis while on GMO feed. In people IBS goes away.
·
Thousands of health care professionals around
the country are prescribing non-gmo products to their patients. Dramatic
improvements being reported from these patients and their doctors after
removing GMO’s from their diet.
What can we do about it – People’s choices to NOT buy GMO
products are the highest force to prevent GMO production foods. Buy organic, labeled non-GMO foods. These
useful apps can make
shopping non-GMO easier for you.
